A traditional ohashizome ceremony was held at Prince Akishino's residence in Tokyo to mark the first feeding of his son, Prince Hisahito, with chopsticks. During the ceremony, chopsticks were dipped in red bean porridge and then held to the young prince's mouth. Two blue rockets and a salted redwing sea robin fish are placed on a table to signify hope for a strong teeth and a healthy body.

A private girl's school in Nagasaki decided to test applicants' chopstick skills as part of their entrance examinations. Girls will be required to handle marbles, dice and three types of beans in order to judge their lifestyle habits.
The Hisatagakuen School is famous for its strict rules and also requires students to master tea ceremony and flower arranging.
